Cascale CEO Colin Browne is stepping down after just over a year in the role.

The executive, who took over leadership of the influential sustainability-focussed trade group last May, will step down on July 31, Cascale said Thursday. A global search is underway to find his successor.

Browne joined the organisation shortly after a rebrand that aimed to distance Cascale (previously known as The Sustainable Apparel Coalition) from a greenwashing scandal.

He’s overseen a reset that has stabilised and refocussed the initiative over the last year, Cascale board chair Tamar Hoek said in a statement.

Over the last month, a flurry of companies with backers from H&M to Inditex have advanced plans to build their first industrial-scale textile-to-textile recycling plants, advancing a technology that is often held up as a holy-grail-like solution to many of fashion’s environmental ills.
